Our Story

It all started from very humble beginnings…

The founder and creator of UFP, Teresa Sewell

The founder and creator of UFP, Teresa Sewell.

It was 1997 when the first jar of Ultra Flexible Paint (UFP) was made at the kitchen table in Perth, Western Australia.

Teresa Sewell, a single mother of two, with an understanding of paint composition from a previous job working for an art supply store, created the unique Ultra Flexible Paint formula. Teresa was finalising the finishing touches on her daughter’s costume, the night before she was due to perform the next day. It was the early hours of the morning.

Teresa had forgotten to purchase shoe paint to change the colour of her daughter’s shoes. She stayed up all night… experimenting, mixing and testing various paint compositions, adhesives and formulations. Finally, Teresa had a formula not only that was a better tone, more suited to the tights and shoe colour than the existing paint normally used… It was far superior in quality.

The new paint formula restored the leather and made her daughters shoes look brand new. It also didn't harden, crack or peel and the biggest improvement of all?... It was flexible!

She knew she’d created a great product which would most likely be well received. She hustled to get UFP exposure within the Perth dance industry, by providing leather swatch samples. Teresa’s reputation for creating a high-quality flexible shoe paint formula spread quickly. Teresa continued her work at the kitchen table - In the early stages of development, she stayed up late most nights, to perfect the formulation and create small batches of UFP.

Her efforts were so successful, that she generated the creation of a full range of colours. Since that time, the growth of UFP’s reputation has established the brand as the only flexible shoe paint designed solely for dancers. UFP is now sold Australia wide.

After Teresa’s passing in 2017, her daughter Amy (pictured below) honored the promise she made to her Mum, to continue the business. Whilst the business has grown since its humble beginnings, every jar of UFP is still hand poured and packaged.
